FOUR YEARS OF CODE OF ARMS OUT NOW!!!

August 30th, 2011 | By Nebulla

bestofCode Of Arms is proud to announce Four Years Of Code Of Arms, sixteen of our classics spanning the last four years, featuring Syndaesia, 6blocc, Hulk, Bobosaw, Depone, Bombaman, Suspect, MC Kush, and many more.

Code Of Arms first appeared in August of 2007 with its own special brand of U.S. dubstep mashed with dirtysouth acappellas, dubbed The Dirtystep Mixtape Vol. I. The mixtape was released as a promotional bootleg and received unexpected acclaim. This set the stage for the first digital releases on C.O.A, followed by a second genre-bending bootleg mixtape in the winter of ‘08. In the summer of 2008 the label released its first vinyl pressing with core members Nebulla and Dore on the buttons.

A New York grown company, Code Of Arms is responsible releasing the 12″ single selections from Wu Tang Meet The Indie Culture Vol2: Enter The Dubstep. C.O.A. boasts a burgeoning roster of artists from across the U.S. and around the globe, including Depone, 6Blocc, Hulk, Lenny Dee, Hellfire Machina, Bombaman and Syndaesia; and the label sports a sizable catalog of distinctive dub-influenced production and synth-heavy club bangers.

COA-D-041 SOUNDKEEPERS E.P. ON CODE OF ARMS

June 7th, 2011 | By Nebulla

coa-d-041Soundkeepers, which was conceived as a two-person Electro DJ/producer team evolved in 2010 to become the solo, mainly Dubstep, project of Ricky Medina. Although mixes and sets will include house music of all sorts where appropriate, Ricky plans to focus most of his energy on his blooming collection of Dubstep productions. With original tracks pending release from the labels Filthy Digital Recordings and Code of Arms Records in 2011, he is clearly on the right track. Artists like Reid Speed, Hellfire Machina, Somejerk, Nebulla, and Soroka have already shown interest in his music. It is, after all, hard to expect anything else from someone who, from a very young age, has experienced and been involved with the New York City dance music scene. To be sure, these roots influence his productions which tend to be huge, body-shaking melodic bangers. His love for all things below 80hz, however, extends past that description with productions of all sorts including tech house, electro house, and more agressive Dubstep tunes. At the end of the day one thing is clear, 2011 and beyond will be the age of Soundkeepers, so look out for this guy’s tunes in a club near you.

B. Soundkeepers – Flatline

Soundkeepers, which was conceived as a two-person Electro DJ/producer team evolved in 2010 to become the solo, mainly Dubstep, project of Ricky Medina. Although mixes and sets will include house music of all sorts where appropriate, Ricky plans to focus most of his energy on his blooming array of Dubstep productions. With prodigious success, his debut release on the US label, Filthy Digital, reached the top 50 on the Beatport Dubstep Bestsellers List in its first week. Soundkeepers is clearly on the right track. Artists like Reid Speed, Hellfire Machina, Somejerk, Nebulla, and Soroka have already shown interest in his music. It is, after all, hard to expect anything else from someone who, from a very young age, has experienced and been involved with the New York City dance music scene. These roots influence his productions which tend to be huge, body-shaking bangers at 140bpm, that are both melodic and agressively sinister. His love for all things below 80hz, however, extends past that description with productions of all sorts including tech house and electro house. At the end of the day one thing is clear, 2011 and beyond will be the age of Soundkeepers, so look out for this guy’s tunes in a club near you.

Over a long career he has shared the stage with Sizzla Kalonji, as well as the legendary Burning Spear, Bounty Killer, Frankie Paul, Pam Hall, Mikey Merican and Jigsy King. Today he remains a prolific producer and talented performer.  His career first launched in 1986 when he formed Declaration Music, which released its first recording “Color Kodak” in the same year.

In 1994, he migrated to the U.S.A and was awarded the 91.5 FM Youth in Progress award for his hit song Stop The War, produced by Bobby Konders of Hot 97. Also produced were a host of other songs such as Make Dem Gwan Talk, Ganja Man & Moving in a Very High Tempo.

In 2002 Clarke toured France, Switzerland, and the UK with Sister Carol, who recognized his potential for pleasing European crowds and helped him make the connection.

Devon is credited with the releases Color Kodak, World A Spin, Reggae Lambada, Days of School, Mek Some Money, Killing Feeling, Stop The War, Moving In A Very High Tempo, Revelation, Bits and Pieces, Worry Dem, Cry Fi Yuh Loving, New York Blues, Tenor Saw Dead and Gone, Belly of The Beast, Rock Solid, Mek Dem Gwan Talk (with Jigsy King) and Ganja Man Tune (with Yankee B.) Clarke’s first album, Against All Odds - Tribute to Tenor Saw & Nitty Gritty, was released on his label Declaration Music in the 1990s and was recently repressed by Deadly Dragon Sound System.  He is currently working on a second album, but in the mean time has been taking in the success on his most recent single, Chip Off The Iceberg on Code of Arms Records.

column “Basic Needs” in the December 2007 issue of XLR8R, he makes dark, weird, boundary pushing music for you to meditate to in a club with large speakers. Always looking for a new way to mangle sub bass, you can find him pushing out new music every week in the form of 4/4, electro tinged dubstep.

He has forthcoming releases on LA Dubstep, Nostra, Code of Arms, Lo Dubs and Badman Press, and releases already available on Lo Dubs, Aufect Recordings and Dubplatelet. Working with XI for the past two years producing music and performing on their radio show STREAMIZM!, he has traveled up and down Ontario and Quebec and will be venturing all across North America in search of the perfect sound system to play his music on.

You can hear Crookers, Rusko, Diplo, 12th Planet, DZ, Starkey, Stenchman, the Trouble & Bass crew and many other top shelf DJ’s playing his music these days, so heads up.

COA-D-030 DEPONE & SONWAH FRESH - OLDSKOOL DUB OUT NOW ON BEATPORT!

November 30th, 2010 | By Nebulla

deponeseconddraftsmalll_e25c2f5aa51b060f97bdb48f1c8701ea

Code Of Arms is proud to announce the digital release of Old Skool Dub / Eskimo Jam featuring Depone and Sonwah Fresh.
Depone is gaining momentum in the dubstep world, with several releases under his belt he has caught the attention of various artists and labels worldwide, and his tunes are played by some of the biggest names in the genre. Depone’s skills at the buttons are exceptional. Pursuing an honors degree in music technology, his production qualities shine through in every track he touches. Depone has been killing clubs for years as a DJ as well, and fills the floors with a mixture of dark, moody, tekky dubstep with a stab of raw energy.
Sonwah Fresh, a.k.a. Sonny Lindon, was born in Devon Southwest, UK and
was first influenced by dance music at the age of 10. Introduced to drum ‘n’ bass and break beat at a young age, he started producing on just a Playstation. With the help of his friend Depone and his music production education, he learned the tricks of the trade and is now making serious moves in the EDM scene. This, his vinyl debut on Code Of Arms, is just the beginning for Sonwah Fresh.

Old Skool Dub is in a class of it’s own. Depone and Sonwah Fresh masterfully blend the old sound with the new, creating a hybrid-monster of a tune. Enticing familiar female vocal samples lure
you in to the drop, which rapidly batters the rhythm with hard sub. The nineties style synth bounces around the punchy drums, providing a perfect compliment to the gritty bass sounds. A pure feeling of nostalgia is combined with murderous bass-fueled mischief in this futuristic dream called Old Skool Dub.

Eskimo Jam opens with big cracks and booms in the distance that creates a dark, eerie atmosphere throughout the track. The exotic guitar and elastic skanky chords set the deep underlying melody of the song, which the bass then rudely counters. Nothing can prepare you though for when the sub drops in with a “Tony Montana” attitude, as the vocal sample accentuates. Tight, crisp drums answer to the wild synth sweeps and the sharp stabs that relentlessly pierce and sting the rhythm.
Eskimo Jam is an all out club banger with staying power so make sure you pick it up…
